Many people daydream about traveling the world, but all of them have the same excuse - lack of money. Tomislav, after traveling the world for years with almost no money, shows how it is possible for everyone to do the same, if they really want to.
Tomislav Perko, 29, is a travel writer from Croatia. After a career of a stockbroker, broke because of the financial crisis, he hits the road and turns it into his home. He uses alternative ways of traveling – hitchhiking, couchsurfing, working/volunteering, and manages to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in his pocket, meeting the most amazing people on the way.
Five years later, he publishes a book “1000 Days of Spring” and goes around giving lectures about what it means to live on the road.

The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success. Based on social science research and real life examples, Eduardo Briceño articulates how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key. When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they're naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard. Conversely, when they understand that abilities are developed, they more readily adopt learning-oriented behaviors such as deliberate practice and grit that enable them to achieve their goals. But this belief is itself malleable, and there are clear actions we can all take to establish a growth mindset and enable success for our children, our peers and ourselves.
Eduardo Briceño is the Co-Founder and CEO of Mindset Works (http://www.mindsetworks.com), an organization that helps schools and other organizations cultivate a growth mindset culture. The growth mindset was discovered by Stanford professor and Mindset Works co-founder Carol Dweck, Ph.D., and is described in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (http://www.mindsetonline.com). Mindset Works offers Brainology, an innovative blended learning program to teach a growth mindset to students, teachers and schools, as well as teacher professional development and tools (http://www.mindsetworks.com/brainology/).

wn.com/The Power Of Belief Mindset And Success | Eduardo Briceno | Tedxmanhattanbeach

Scott Dinsmore's mission is to change the world by helping people find what excites them and build a career around the work only they are capable of doing. He is a career change strategist whose demoralizing experience at a Fortune 500 job launched his quest to understand why 80% of adults hate the work they do, and more importantly, to identify what the other 20% were doing differently. His research led to experiences with thousands of employees and entrepreneurs from 158 countries. Scott distilled the results down to his Passionate Work Framework - three surprisingly simple practices for finding and doing work you love, that all happen to be completely within our control. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We have medicine cabinets for common physical injuries like cuts and colds but no toolkits for common psychological injuries such as failure, rejection, guilt, and loss. In his inspirational talk, Guy Winch tells us that “you can’t treat a psychological wound if you don’t know you’re injured”. Guy teaches us a lesson on why it is so important to practice emotional hygiene.
Guy Winch Ph.D. is a psychologist, speaker, and author whose books have been translated into 15 languages. His most recent book, Emotional First Aid: Practical Strategies for Treating Failure, Rejection, Guilt, and Other Everyday Psychological Injuries (Hudson Street Press, 2013) examines the surprising ways in which seven common psychological injuries (Rejection, Loneliness, Loss, Guilt, Rumination, Failure, and bouts of Low Self-Esteem) impact our behavior, emotions, cognitive functioning, and physical health, and provides science-based treatments to heal the wounds they inflict.
In both his writing and his talks, Dr. Winch aims to bridge the gap between the science of psychology and its practice in the real world. He is passionate about translating current scientific findings into practical applications people can use to better their psychological health and their relationships. Dr. Winch is a member of the American Psychological Association. He lives and practices in New York City.

Miss International 2012, Ikumi Yoshimatsu courageously speaks out to publicly expose the “culture of silence” surrounding stalking and violence against women.
Imagine turning on your television to watch a beauty pageant. Talented, beautiful individuals from across the globe compete for a prestigious world title and a crown that symbolizes national pride, success, achievement and admiration. However, after we turn off the television and the winner steps down from the stage, aside from the honor of wearing the crown, most of us never consider the challenges that may await the new titleholder.
Miss International 2012, Ikumi Yoshimatsu -Japan's first world title holder in the 52-year history of the pageant discovered all too quickly the darker side of victory. Her anticipated year of national pride and success twisted into a nightmare played out in the eyes of the world. Rather than be pressured into silence, Ikumi courageously spoke out. Publicly exposing the "culture of silence" toward stalking and violence against women, Ikumi raised what has been a carefully concealed injustice to national and global attention.

She also enjoyed collecting all manner of materials to make art. In 2008, after years in the arts industry, she was appointed to undertake a scoping study to examine the possibility of ghost net as an art material in the remote Indigenous communities where is was washing ashore. The combination of low levels of fertility and mortality over many years have contributed to population aging. This process impacts on family structure that tends to present a kinship network with more ascending and descendants relatives (great grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren) and less collateral relatives (brothers, uncles, cousins). This can promote changes in family relationships. Relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, on the one hand, has emerged new ways of understanding aging, this producing a generation of active healthy and willing grandparents that compete for the attention of their grandchildren.

Daniele Lago shares with the audience of TedXRoncade his innovative view of business and the design of spaces.
Daniele Lago, classe 1972.

Leaning out the side of a helicopter, held only by a harness and his sense of connectedness with the earth's endless sea of light, Vincent Laforet captures cities from above, in a way that resembles pathways on a circuit board, or a network of neuronal synapses. The AIR series began as a creative idea for an image to accompany a psychology article, and turned into groundbreaking aerial photography techniques that have helped define Vincent's own style.
Vincent Laforet is a French American director and photographer. In 2002 he shared the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography with four other photographers as a member of The New York Times staff's coverage of the post 9/11 events overseas that captured "the pain and the perseverance of people enduring protracted conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan."
He has been sent on assignment by Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, and Life.
In 2002, PDN named Vincent Laforêt as one of the “30 photographers under 30 to watch″. In 2005, American Photo Magazine recognized Laforêt as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Photography.” He is a DGA Director (Directors Guild of America) and of the ICG (International Cinematographers' Guild – Local 600.)
Laforet has been awarded 3 of the prestigious Cannes Lions (Platinum, Gold, Silver) for his commercial directing work.

In all we collect, where do we spot the really important things? | Bob Stein | TEDxSanFrancisco

Context confers aura to objects. A piece of cloth is holy because it was worn by Jesus. Family photographs lose their meaning as the people and events portrayed fade from collective memory. All my life (69 years now) I've saved things because of a sense that they might be historically important. There are now between two and three hundred boxes. The objects in the boxes have an aura (for me) because of the context I bring to them. Without that context they are as meaningless as Hearst’s Rosebud sled mouldering in a warehouse. I am planning a two-month exhibition in a museum during which I will open the boxes and talk to visitors about the contents and allow them to take an object home with them. Attaching stories to selected objects and dispersing them like seeds to the wind is an experiment in creating cultural value out of what would otherwise become junk in a basement.

Much more than cyclists, two young men turned their bikes into something grand. Athletes who are adventurous, they crossed the state of Paraíba biking in order to collect blood donations. But in reality, they got much more and gave a turnaround in the lives of many people.

How can employers most effectively engage with the pool of talent returning from career break? The reentry internship removes the perceived risk some managers attach to hiring returning professionals at the same time it provides a formal pathway back into the workforce for the individual on career break. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, IBM, Intel and General Motors are among the global companies piloting or running formal reentry internship programs and the concept is spreading. Carol Fishman Cohen explains why the reentry internship is the perfect vehicle for employers to engage with ""relaunchers"" in her talk ""The 40-Year-Old Intern."
Carol Fishman Cohen, CEO, iRelaunch, is the co-author of career reentry strategy book Back on the Career Track and author of the "40-Year-Old Intern" article series in Harvard Business Review. She consults extensively with companies developing and running reentry internship programs for returning professionals. Carol originated and co-leads the Society of Women Engineers/iRelaunch STEM Reentry Task Force initiative in which 7 global engineering-based companies are piloting reentry internship programs for returning engineers. Carol's return to work at Bain Capital after 11 years out of the full time workforce is documented in a Harvard Business School case study.

In the beginning of 2010, as a successful, active and authentically happy family, we found ourselves plagued with symptoms that seemed inexplicable to well respected medical doctors. Despite living a “healthy” life style we simply did not feel well...a journey of two wonderful personalities that brought them to the roots of our diet and surprising insight.
About five years ago, Yrmis Barroeta learned she had two auto-immune disorders. Her husband, Bobby Chang, was having some digestive issues. Meanwhile, his daughter’s energy would often crash before lunch.

Marino Golinelli shares his long experience as innovator, entrepreneur, philanthropist and visionary, talking about culture and change.
Imprenditore – pioniere, filantropo, visionario.

Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how "power posing" -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

Dr. Brené Brown is a researcher professor at the University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work, where she has spent the past ten years studying a concept that she calls Wholeheartedness, posing the questions: How do we engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness? How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection that we need to embrace our imperfections and to recognize that we are enough -- that we are worthy of love, belonging and joy? Brené is the author of I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't): Telling the Truth About Perfectionism, Inadequacy, and Power (2007) and the forthcoming books, The Gifts of Imperfection (2010) and Wholehearted: Spiritual Adventures in Falling Apart, Growing Up, and Finding Joy ( 2011).

"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert," begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world's grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert.
